Ten years ago- well, really, it was February 29th, but as we don't have one of those this year, it falls to today... I suppose it should have fallen to yesterday but I didn't have everything ready then. Anyhow, where was I? Ah yes. Ten years ago... a particular direct-to-video sequel came out, one of many that were produced by a certain entertainment company over the years. This one was significant to me, though, for it continued a storyline involving two of my favorite characters. These two, of course, had been in a TV series and a feature-length film before, and while the sequel wasn't as good as the movie that came before it, it had its moments. I still give it a watch from time to time.
And so, on this auspicious occasion, though I haven't done one of those picture mosaic things in a while, I decided this was as good a time as any. And here it is:
So yeah, it's the cover art from the DVD, formed out of frames from the movie itself. The pool of tiles for this was sampled every third of a second or so over the length of the whole movie. In this case, the algorithm was allowed to repeat tiles, but only so many times, and only if they were so many spaces away from a previous use. Cases of identical-looking tiles adjacent to each other are really different tiles from scenes where not that much changed between frames. So anyway, there it is. If it helps, lean back and squint a bit. :o)
